# Too many requests

`RATE_LIMIT_EXCEEDED` · HTTP 429

## What it means

Too many requests in the current window, from this key or, without a key, from this address.

## What to do

Wait the number of seconds in the `Retry-After` header, then continue. `X-RateLimit-Limit`, `X-RateLimit-Remaining` and `X-RateLimit-Reset` (a Unix timestamp) come with every answer, so a client can pace itself before it is refused. This says nothing about the key itself: do not replace it.
